Research Cooperatives

Primary Goal: Create and disseminate accessible scholarly material about women and gender in history.

What is a "co-op"?

A co-op is a focused multidisciplinary research and study group that has as its primary goal the creation and dissemination of accessible scholarly content to multiple audiences of students and learners. Co-ops are formed to take advantage of interest generated by events that take place on campus. For example, a weeklong celebration of Hildegard of Bingen that was co-sponsored by the School of Music, CSWS and the Humanities Center, resulted in the creation of our Hildegard Co-op.

We currently have five co-ops:

  • Women and Religion (Spiritual Traditions)
  • Women and Art
  • Women and Power
  • Hildegard of Bingen and Women's Spiritual Traditions
  • Abigail Scott Duniway and 19th Century Feminist Activism in Oregon
What does a "co-op" do?

Co-ops are intended to attract and encourage people interested and versed in a specified topic to work together to generate and disseminate materials that relate to the topic of interest. Activities include teaching tools, presenting public programs, and creating virtual resources to use in teaching and public programs.

Developing material with integrity to help secondary and lower-division teachers

  • Content for learners at all levels
  • Modular - stand alone units of instruction and presentation
  • Resources - syllabi, bibliographies, lesson plans, study guides, on-line instruction
  • Multimedia material that includes primary and secondary sources
Presenting Public Programs
  • Popularized versions of scholarly research that maintain the integrity
  • Statewide audiences of adults and retirees
  • Online content
Creating Virtual Resources
  • Create material to include in FHP's Virtual Resource Bank
  • Produce and share multimedia and interactive instructional material
